Wisconsin’s “Up North”

Our traveling has been somewhat limited this year but we did manage to go for a 3 day trip ‘up north’. Those of you in WI know just what that means J  We drove through some great little towns since we took the back roads. On the way up we stopped at the Horicon Marsh  to check out this guy!!  All made of rebar.Mammoth

We wound our way on to Wautoma to see this Ghost House!!  DSC02198

Our friends in Wausau have a lovely old farm with a barn that just lends itself beautifully to photography don’t you think?  DSC02234

Wausau’s Monk Gardens are a work in progress and offer a lovely series of meditational pathways along with some geocaching. DSC02247

On our way back home we visited the StevensPoint Sculpturepark  .  How nice to be able to enjoy nature and art while you walk!  One of my favorites was this Swift Nesting Chimney. DSC02274

Harvest time……….

IMG_2248IMG_2253

It’s fall harvest time and that includes our little piece of the Wisconsin landscape. This years potato crop was amazing…. 4 different varieties; one of them a BLUE potato! Makes great steak fries but sort of off-putting as mashed 🙂  Maybe kids would like purple mashed spuds though?

Farmers Market Fun

Last weekend we went to the local farmer’s market. So much to see there – the place was hopping! In amongst the usual vegetable and fruit stands we found these unusual items for sale. From far away I thought I was seeing framed art … some type of floral subject manner  On closer inspection we found these incredible living pictures! Succulents tucked into a wooden boxes and then surrounded with a lovely vintage frames! How clever  🙂  You can find these creations sold by the Bemis Upland Springs Floral growers team. visit their stall at the West Bend Farmer’s Market <OR> their greenhouse in Adell Wisconsin!

The value of daydreaming

Rooftop DayDreams

Do you ever daydream? Is it a waste of time, an idle mind gone wrong? Or a place to collect thoughts and ideas to help us in our daily lives? A safe space to be creative? And why and how do we daydream? Can we plan it or does it just happen?

I have noticed that there are ample opportunities for me to daydream, indeed there are specific situations that lend themselves to it! Waiting for a cup of tea to steep and staring out the window. Sitting on the deck getting ready to read a book…. I hear a bird call and then look out over the garden and the next thing you know I am daydreaming! Sometimes I even daydream (kind of) while driving to work. Do you think that animals day dream? Are day dreams different than night dreams? And what do we do with our daydreams…. Do they cause us to take action or change something or are they just pleasant diversions from everyday tasks?

What do you think about when YOU daydream?
